About Me
After a few years of my childhood pursuing and fiddling with the idea of a career as an archaeologist, paleontologist, and an astronaut, I was given a Bob Ross Oil Paint Set for Beginners. “What was this sorcery?!” I thought. This man I had seen on TV had made it easy for me to be just like him; with the ability to create spaces and environments out of thin air with “just a little dab here…”
After my one and only trip to Space Camp, I realized hurdling through space relying on estimated calculations wasn’t for me. I knew for sure that I wanted to be an artist. Growing up, my parents took my sister and I to countless museums, and living in Virginia we were fortunate enough to frequent the Smithsonian Institutions among the other local museums around us. As a kid, I found art museums a magical place of time travel and know now that it’s due to the dedication to research and preservation which allows art museums to continue to be a place of solace for me.
Both my mother and my grandmother had a beautiful talent at illustrating and drawing. I like to think I inherited it from them, and when my mom gave me her old oil pastel set from her college days, I was ready to dive into this new medium, among others. I painted, collaged, sculpted, and illustrated my way through college. It was there that I also minored in Anthropology, deepening my desire to understand the long, tenacious relationship between art and humanity. Many years after I received my Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts from Old Dominion University, I received a professional certification in Graphic Design from Southern Methodist University’s Continuing and Professional Education program. I recently completed my Master of Arts in Modern and Contemporary Art History at Azusa Pacific University.
Throughout my life, I have lived all over the United States, and I have had opportunities to travel to India, Canada, Mexico, Uganda, and Italy. Each one of my relocations and travels broadened my perspective and taught me something new about humanity and how we interact with the world around us. This point of view offers the ability to collaborate with people of all backgrounds and finding a common ground through both our shared experiences and a curiosity for the unfamiliar.
In my career, I’ve had the pleasure to design for children’s education companies, museums, start-ups, and churches, and all types of small and large businesses. Design is a wonderful way to connect people with art and information, and I enjoy making complex information easier to understand and more enjoyable to view. In my personal time, I continue to find creative projects and I love spending time with my husband, kids, and cats.
So, peruse around and enjoy. Thank you for visiting my little corner of the world where I can share at random on the subjects of art, philosophy, religion, design, museums, books…the list is ever evolving.
Warmly,
Brittany
